It was somewhere amongst all of the smiles I took in last night that I realized that South City Theatre as a company has gotten its groove back. For those of you outsiders, our little theatre company used to be in a 99 seat setting. Wide open stage. Fairly big shows. There was a lot of history there.
Fast forward to now in our 37 seat space in Columbiana, AL. The audiences are small but the intimate nature of a smaller crowd has produced a fulfillment in my theatre career that I've never experienced. When you make someone laugh, they are close enough to laugh with you. When you cry on stage, you can feel the audience members crying with you. As far as community theatres go, we are one of few black boxes in town.
My shows there only last two weekends. The experience lives on for much longer.
(P.S. Come see us either tonight, tomorrow, or both!!!)
