So, the 2013 Oscars came and went without any surprises unless some of you had some insider knowledge on the sound editing categories. I just got my copy of Argo on blu-ray and plan to watch it very soon, but I have no doubt with having watched Affleck's two other directorial works that it is going to be everything Hollywood told us it will be. But I digress. The elephant in the room is the winner of the Best Director category. Ang Lee has done a lot of fantastic work, making Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and I even enjoyed Taking Woodstock to some extent (he also directed HULK, but that is neither here nor there). I have no doubt in my mind that he should have deserved that award at one point, but twenty or so other award ceremonies can't be wrong: Affleck should have been nominated and won that award. How do you have Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture, and still not achieve Best Director. Some politics in there didn't add up. Affleck had the last laugh by producing Argo, so the trophy was not kept from his hands. Other than that, great show. MacFarlane was a great host and I loved the introduction of the Jaws theme to usher long speeches off of the stage. I think it is something they should keep for the future. What? You noticed my titled had the word "Muse" in it. This is why: Have a nice day!
